its works very well for that,yes. However it i use the castaic as my primary baitcaster because i like being able to set the spool as soon as it hits water.

No, its not just for flipping and pitching, acually, the only thing that makes it a good flipping and pitching reel is the way the thumbar is designed. It has a thing attached to the thumbar that you can push up on to re-engage the spool without turning the handle, which is good for flipping and pitching. However, it should still be a great reel for casting, too. This feature makes it good for buzzbaits and frogs, too because you can re-engage the spool before the lure sinks. Hope this was helpful.

i am planning on pairing it with a heavy or extra heavy e21 corrot stix for heavy cover. is this a good choice? is there any other rods that i should look at? What length should i use? thanks for ur answers

Don't bother--the one I received didn't have one. I sent it back. The were good about the refund, but it's frustrating to not be able to trust the descriptions.

The big this what line and what kind of line you use. I use 20 P-Line CXX. These are very good reels for the cost. I have have these for years and just clean oil then once a year. You need to make sure the rod is not long for as tall you are. I'm 5'-8" and I use a 7' rod. Some people use longer but I can not
